What should I do if my cello is bigger than it suppose to be?

I mean, my height is only 5.57 but my cello is 4/4. my friend told me that, for people with height from 5 ft-5.5ft should use the 3/4 cello. is it still possible for me to learn and play the cello? thnks a lot.
